Come and enjoy our Hawk-Walks

We specialize in eighty minute, private hawk-walks for individuals, families and groups. Our aim is to share the pleasure, excitement and joy of handling and flying one of nature’s top-class predators in a safe and relaxed environment. All our hawk-walks are private experiences, so no grouping together of people who do not know one another, so friends, families and couples can enjoy a one-on-one with their hawks and instructor in a professional yet informal and friendly lesson.

For maximum enjoyment and value for money, group numbers will be limited to four people, although exceptions can be made if required such as for team-building exercises or conference members for example. Larger groups will be split between the centres enthusiastic instructors and each group will be assigned a team of hawks for the duration of their lesson. On each lesson a maximum of two spectators, such as friends or family members, are welcome to accompany the clients free of charge.

No previous experience with birds of prey is necessary as the centres instructors will take you through all the safety procedures essential for the safe handling and flying of the centres hawks. We also cater for a wide range of ages (twelve years and upwards) and abilities.

At the start of each lesson you will be met by your instructor and proceed with a ‘meet and greet’ of the birds before being taken through a brief safety session on the do’s and don’ts of handling and flying the centres hawks. Once you are ready to continue then the real fun begins. During your hawk-walk your instructor will be present at all times to ensure the welfare of both you and the hawks. Over the course of the hawk-walk the instructor will cover many fascinating insights into the birds, such as their place in the environment, what and how they hunt, eyesight, natural behaviours and pack dynamics, whilst the clients fly and interact with ‘their’ hawks. Throughout the duration of the hawk-walk, you or any accompanying spectators are welcome to take as many photographs as you wish as a further reminder of a wonderful experience.

The birds used for the hawk-walks are Harris Hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus), a New World raptor species and one of the only known birds of prey that continually live, hunt and breed within a family unit, similar to the dynamics of a wolf pack.

The vast majority of birds of prey are solitary hunters and only come together during the breeding season and as such would be unsafe to fly together, so this is where the uniqueness of this species comes into play. This hawk’s ability to live and work as a team would allow us to fly a number of birds simultaneously together, so a group of four clients could potentially fly up to four hawks together on their walk. These hawks possess a calm and even temperament and, once trained, will happily free-fly and interact safely with complete strangers. We look forward to be able to share this wonderful experience of these birds with you.

The cost of this experience is £40. You can book this experience by calling us on 01323 442051.
