Sheep at Knockhatch Children's Farm

Soay Sheep

This breed of sheep came from the Scottish Islands originally where they were often fed on seaweed. They will shed their fleece naturally if left but we sheer them to prevent fly strike.  The rams always have two horns but the ewes may have two horns or none at all

Manx Sheep

Originally from the Isle of Man where the breeders tend to select the sheep with four horns

No Name

The white mixed breed sheep is called "No Name". When he came to Knockhatch he was very cross and irritable and the name he was given has remained with him.  No Name is now very friendly and has found a home where he can stay.

Lambs

This is Tom The Lamb, we have been helping him recover from a poorly leg. Tom has some problems with his legs due to not receiving Colostrum which is in the first milk after birth, it is rich in antibodies that help protect newborn animals. Here he is being fed by one of our visitors.
