Pheasant

Reeves Pheasant

The Reeve's pheasant originally comes from the mountains of central and east China where it is mainly found in forests of Oak trees but it is also found in scrub land next to farmland where it is unpopular with the farmer due to the fact that it eats his cereals and root crops.

The Reeve's pheasant is an omnivore (eats plants and meat) and lives by digging and scratching the ground where it finds fruits and seeds but it will also eat insects, snails and earthworms.  It mainly digs with its strong beak rather than with its feet.

In autumn and winter, these birds live in groups of up to 10 but in the spring and summer they choose a mate and live as a pair, occasionally a male will have more females but these birds are largely monogamous.

In the wild Reeve's pheasants are becoming scarce and they are a protected species in China.

White Peafowl

Their colour has been achieved from selective breeding. Their eyes are blue indicating that they are NOT albino. White Peafowl are the national bird of India.
